CAG ANNUAL REPORT LAUNCHED

We are thrilled to share the latest annual report from the Community Action Groups Network in Oxfordshire.

Oxfordshire is home to an incredible array of organisations, community groups, and social enterprises all doing amazing work harnessing the power of collective good will. A network comprised of mostly volunteer-led efforts to make the place we call home a greener, safer, fairer and more sustainable place to live, work, and play!

Every year, we collect data from the network on the events and activities they have run, the volunteers, the number of people attended or engaged, and the impact this has had.

It never fails to amaze us how every year more is done and more is achieved. We love sharing how the collective effort and enthusiasm have such a big impact on our communities, both locally and globally.

Over the past year, groups in the CAG network hosted over 8,000 events and activities promoting sustainability and bringing people together to take action locally. They attracted 120,000 attendees and clocked in a whopping 200,000 volunteer hours from members of the community. This is nearly double the outputs of the previous year!

These activities resulted in 1645 tonnes of non-food waste and 678 tonnes of food diverted from disposal. Additionally, over 1000 bikes were repaired by groups. Collectively, this has saved 1695 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide emissions.

CAG Oxfordshire cannot take credit for the individual efforts of the member groups, but we are their cheerleaders and are pleased to play a small part in their successes shared in this report. They are the heart and soul of the climate action - and beyond - community in Oxfordshire.

Katherine Chesson, Director of CAG Oxfordshire says:

I am incredibly proud to be associated with such an inspiring, motivated group of individuals from all corners of the County. As an organisation, it is vital that we provide ongoing support to the network as well as individual groups to ensure no one feels alone in their work and that all have the tools necessary to carry out such a wide range of activities. To this end, CAG Oxfordshire could not do what we do without the support of Oxfordshire County Council, our other funders, and wide ranging partners. We appreciate the ongoing, and increased commitment, to empowering communities to deliver local solutions.

Councillor Dr Pete Sudbury, Deputy Leader of Oxfordshire County Council with Responsibility for Climate Change, Environment and Future Generations, said:

“Oxfordshire’s community action groups continue to prove that the appetite is there for meaningful change in the way we live our lives to combat climate change. Every CAG is a piece of the machinery we need to put together when it comes to lifting ourselves up into a sustainable future.

“As a council, we want to make it as easy as possible for people to do the things that they know will make a difference and CAGs are the bedrock of our support to communities. That is why we doubled the funding for them and we are delighted to see the impact that that has had.”
