Fermentation is an ancient food preservation technique, used in every cuisine, which has given rise to some of the most complex and celebrated flavours found in foods and beverages such as soy sauce, wine, cheese, sauerkraut and countless others.
In this fermentation workshop, you’ll learn all about this safe, easy and delicious way to preserve your produce and make healthy beverages.
We will cover technique, equipment, safety and health benefits and give practical demonstrations showing how to make sauerkraut and kombucha (fermented sweet tea).
We will also go over the variety of food items that can be produced through fermentation such as ketchup, chutneys, sriracha (garlic chilli sauce), sourdough bread and yogurt.
£45 per person, or £40 if booked with Growing Your Own Fruit. Please bring a couple of small jars if you would like to take some of the fermented products home with you.
The theory of fruit growing with Incredible Edible Oxford, including:
– an overview of fruits that grow well locally
– how to care for your fruit plants
– different varieties, including more unusual and heritage fruits
– designing spaces for fruit
– how to grow more fruit than you thought possible in a small space!
We will also cover how the many ways to preserve fruit and give a demonstration on jam making.
£45 per person, or £40 if booked with the Fermentation Workshop. Please bring a jar with you if you would like to take some jam home with you.
In this workshop we will look at traditional Japanese books and learn basic binding techniques, with the option of progressing to more complicated stitched bindings and adding beads. The possibilities are endless for developing the intricate embroidered patterns.
Suitable for beginners in bookmaking.
We have volunteer fixers ready to help you repair household and electrical items. As well as welcoming anyone popping in with things for fixing
We’ll be collecting broken / unwanted electrical items to repair and
sell on second-hand to reduce the amount of electrical waste.
