Food matters @ Rose Hill Community Centre
Mar 15 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm
Food matters @ Rose Hill Community Centre | Rose Hill | England | United Kingdom

The evening will focus on why food matters if we are to live within the planet’s resources. We’ll have a series of 10-minute talks from Simon Kenton (Cultivate), Cathy Howard (Food Bank), Sayema Monam, (Youth Club Food), Kat Luddecke (Farmers Markets) Paul Skinner (experienced gardener) and Richard Vernon (experienced fruit tree grower). They will explore:
what we should be eating and why
how we can grow food without poisoning the soil, other plants and wild-life
how we package and transport food
how we share food equitably without waste
how to plant fruit trees for public use in Rose Hill and Iffley
Afterwards we’ll discuss what practical actions we can take locally. PLEASE COME and add to the discussion – and action! If possible, please print and display the attached poster.

Talking Shop’s Market & Cafe

We sell delicious local produce and run a great cafe every Saturday morning from 9am to midday in the Village Hall, Sandford-on-Thames.

The Saturday Market & Cafe was started as a fundraiser and as an opportunity to investigate the market, to work with and to build up a team of volunteers and to learn about running a shop of sorts.

The Market is run completely by volunteers – we have a pool of about 60 people involved and about 15 work on any Saturday morning to run the market.

East Oxford Farmers’ & Community Market @ East Oxford Primary School, Oxford
Mar 16 @ 10:00 am – 1:00 pm

The East Oxford Farmers’ & Community Market is a small, friendly local market which can provide the staples for your weekly shop, all from sources within 30 miles of Oxford: bread, eggs, milk, vegetables, cheese, various meats, refills for cleaning supplies – as well as a range of other products such as jewellery, clothing and secondhand books.

It has been running since August 2006, and is a non-profit making organisation, run by a committee and a group of volunteers.

We are passionate about the market and what it sells. We actively source food from within 30 miles of Oxford and encourage community stalls run by local residents. We also offer Fairtrade produce from further afield and try to make sure it comes to us by land or ship. Further details are available in our Market Manifesto.

The market has a cafe which runs each week selling delicious breakfasts, lunches, cakes and fair-trade teas and coffee. This is a lovely place to meet up and take a break from shopping.

Become a fan of the market on Facebook – see our East Oxford Farmers’ Market Facebook page.
