From Richard at East Oxford Farmers Market:
This year we are celebrating an incredible ten years of East Oxford Farmers’ and Community Market. After starting out with six stalls on Manzil Way back in 2007 the market has gone from strength to strength. Moving to the current school site in 2009 the market went on to be shortlisted as one of three finalists for a BBC Food and Farming Award for Best Food Market in 2011. We now host around 20 fantastic stalls each week and enjoy a wonderfully loyal community of customers for whom we have become an integral part of local life. We thought this milestone needed to be marked so we have teamed up with East Oxford Primary School – which provides such a great location for the market – to do so.
Last Monday several of our regular traders ran an assembly on sustainable food at the school and the kids worked with Maria of Make Do Mend to design a special edition mug. On Saturday 16th July you can vote for the best design and on Sunday 17th September our birthday extravaganza market will see the winner announced. The mugs will then have pride of place in our market café where they can be used for the next ten years! We are very grateful to Midcounties Co-operative for funding which has enabled this work. Find out more here.
P.s You may not believe it but our market is almost entirely run by volunteers. We’re looking for volunteers to help out on a Saturday morning for an hour and a half. We’d love to hear from you – just contact Kat on firstname.lastname@example.org to find out how you could be part of this exciting, vibrant market.
