Orinoco is a small but popular charity, based in Oxford, committed to reuse and to providing interesting and unusual materials and tools for creative and DIY projects. We collect waste and unwanted household items from local businesses and individuals and sell it at very low prices through the Scrapstore. Orinoco also runs a ‘scrapmobile’, which offers creative play opportunities for children using waste materials at outdoor festivals and play days.
The organisation is undergoing a significant redevelopment of its strategy and business model and will be responding to the potential opened up by the redesign of the Bullingdon Community Centre’s premises. There are currently a number of voluntary and paid roles with Orinoco, giving an excellent opportunity to get involved in unlocking Orinoco’s potential to be at the forefront of innovative reuse and recycling activities and help shape the direction of the charity.
Management Committee roles:
Orinoco are looking for voluntary Management Committee Members to join in the fun that goes on in our eccentric and irrefutably valuable “Aladdin’s Cave” and support the development of a strategic vision and on-going financial sustainability. They are particularly looking for individuals with experience of business development and fundraising in community and voluntary organisations or social enterprises; marketing; and volunteer management.
Store Manager role:
Orinoco is recruiting for a consultancy position to be responsible for the day-today running and maintenance of the scrapstore. Orinoco is looking for someone with a passion for reuse, experience of retail work and volunteer management.
Terms: 18 hours per week over 3 days @ £12 per hour (6 months contract from January 2018)
