Join Earth Trust’s Head of Land Management Chris Parker for a guided tour of the River of Life wetland and discover what’s been achieved four years after work started.
In 2013 Earth Trust embarked on an ambitious project to re-wild 2.5km of Thames riverbank. This new habitat – including backwaters, ponds, reedbeds, grassland, woodland and fen – aimed to benefit a wide range of wetland and woodland species and links directly to an existing international Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), Little Wittenham Wood, which has an important population of great crested newts. But the benefits aren’t limited to conservation – a wonderful new greenspace is available to local people, and the features created will contribute to alleviating local flooding.
