‘Pedal powered Rose Hill’ aims to bring a pedal powered cinema and sound system to the new Rose Hill Community Centre. However, this is simply where the system will be stored and when not in use at the centre we want to make it easily accessible to the wider CAG network for use at events – film screenings, shows, festivals, etc. Its self contained and portable design will ensure it can be whisked around the county with ease.
Transition by Design has worked with Electric Pedals and pedal powered cinemas across a number of years and have seen the difference such an engaging tool can make to people. The video here shows its use in Senegal and the impact it is making for local communities. Rose Hill hosted a screening last year with enormous success, showing reel demand for such a system (excuse the pun!) as kids pedalled into the night, eyes glued to the new release of Paddington Bear.
The system proposed by Electric Pedals is small and compact, can be used for outdoors and will be hireable to other groups at low or no fee.
The cinema will be an excellent engagement tool for local children about renewable energy and healthy, zero carbon ways of having fun. The cinema will also save your group energy directly, by avoiding mains electricity use.
If you think this system could be of value to your group then we’d love to hear from you! The Toe2 grant requires a contribution of £650 match funding and we hope we’ll be able to source this in small contributions from CAGs who would benefit directly from it.
Please email Alice at the Community Action Group (CAG) Project in Oxfordshire directly if you think your group would be willing to make a contribution.
